Dates: October 7-19, 2023
This trip is called Explore Baja and covers the whole Sea of Cortez (aka Gulf of California), starting at San Jose del Cabo at the southern tip of the Baja peninsula going one way to Puerto Penasco in the north.A journey where there are no roads, very few people and almost no boats. Jacques Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez the worlds aquarium.
The bio-diversity between the Northern and Southern Sea of Cortez is incredible. Diving the entire Baja is spectacular. The sea life we will be able to witness on the surface from the boat, dingy or snorkeling is fantastic: dolphins, sea lions, pilot whales, humpback whale, fin whales, orca and sperm whales as well as flying mantas, blue and brown footed boobie birds, cormorants, frigate birds and the endemic yellow footed gulls.
Conditions in the Sea of Cortez are mostly calm, however, there are times that the sea is rough. Average water temperatures in October: 87 F (30 C) with slight variations in water temperature from site to site. It would be a good idea to bring additional layers (e.g. hooded vest or core warmer). A 5mm wetsuit is recommended for those who get cold easily.
Description from our 2018 Trip:
"We snorkeled with whale sharks and dolphins, dove with playful sea lions and manta rays and did a night dive with mobula rays! We also got to see fin whales from the surface, the second largest whale in the world! And these are just the big animal encounters! We also found the tiniest nudibranchs in the north, and we dove a couple of wrecks in the south. This trip has it all!"
