Cylinder service guide

Cylinder inspection, cleaning & testing

Cylinder service is based on the cylinder, its condition, intended gas service, inspection history, and applicable testing requirements—not a one-size-fits-all checklist.

The important distinction

The inside matters as much as the outside.

Moisture, corrosion, residue, valve condition, and previous handling can affect the work a cylinder needs. A visual inspection helps determine the appropriate next step.

Visual inspection

External and internal condition are evaluated, along with threads, neck, valve, and current markings.

Internal cleaning

When appropriate, supported cleaning methods may be used to address residue or removable corrosion.

Outside testing

Hydrostatic and applicable eddy-current testing can be coordinated through qualified outside providers.

Oxygen-compatible service

Equipment intended for oxygen-enriched service may require oxygen-compatible cleaning and components. The appropriate work depends on the cylinder, valve, intended use, and fill provider requirements.

Valve service

Supported valve work may include disassembly, inspection, cleaning, applicable replacement components, reassembly, and testing before the cylinder is returned to service.

Something does not feel right?

Do not wait for a scheduled service interval. Stop using the equipment and bring it in with a clear description of what you experienced.

Service note

Please contact Underwater World before mailing a cylinder. Cylinders are accepted for shipment by prior arrangement only.
